Time for a New Me

I have decided that 2008 is to be a year of change for me. I continue to age at an alarming rate. It seems like just last year, I turned 30, and now I am over 50. Recently, I qualified for AARP, a good discount and a dubious honor. My health is declining and my weight continues to climb. I am unable to be up and about for longer than a few hours without needing to take a nap. I still look young from the neck up and I am resolved to both look and feel much younger, healthier and happier all over my body by the end of this year.

Yesterday, I had a wonderful meeting with a weight control specialist named Kevin Pierce. He represents a new weight loss program recommended by my family doctor (Dr. Charles Coggin III from Forest Family Physicians.) I WAS going to have gastric bypass or lapband surgery this year, but then this new program became available and Dr. Coggin encouraged me to try it. The name of the program is Cornerstone Wellness. MD. The company stresses that this is not a DIET, but an overall lifestyle change.

To start the program cost me over $230 is products and doctor's visits. It was covered by my Flexible Spending Account coverage through my husband's insurance, so it was not too big of a crunch. I like what I see so far; I am committed to sticking to it long enough to make a difference in my rapidly deteriorating health and wellness. At age 52, I weigh in at 294 pounds and I am suffering from a long list of ailments that include: depression, asthma, joint pain, allergies, recurring episodes of bronchitis brought on by my asthma and allergies, hypoglycemia, fatigue, a tender, easily upset stomach and bowel problems which may be irritable bowel. Sigh...at age 50+ I am already "falling to bits."

This is a diet and exercise program, but it is fairly free form. Kevin is NOT what I expected at all. For one, he might possibly outweigh me, even at my current weight of 294 pounds. He appears a little chunky, but mostly, he seems like football linebacker material. He represents a high protein physicians diet called Conerstone Wellness.MD.

There's not a lot on Cornerstone Wellness. MD's web pages, but Kevin gave me a very complete booklet of information, did a fairly good workup on my health, and did a complete BMI on me with electrodes, not just the numbers. I am 50% fat. I already knew this intuitively because I know my best weight is about 150 pounds. I am two of what I should be right now in size. I am operating at about HALF of what I can do with my life and my talents. It is time to stop this alarming negative trend, grow in personal power and wellness and reduce in overall body size, so I can double the years of life left to me. It won'r be easy, but I AM GOING TO DO IT!
